Barton Sweeps LMC In Tennis PDF Print

Hang Lak Choi (Newton, N.C.) rallied for a thrilling three-set victory in singles play to pace the Lees-McRae College men's tennis team on Saturday afternoon, as Barton College fought back with four doubles wins en route to a 6-3 triumph in Conference Carolinas action. Lees-McRae's (0-10, 0-6 CC) tandem of Joao Araujo (Curitiba, Puerto Rico) and Carlos Pinel (Vitoria, EspĂ­rito Santo, Brazil) opened the day with a hard-fought 8-6 victory over Barton's (5-8, 3-5 CC) duo of Jorge Pradilla and Nick Genest, before Rafael Ruiz Velasco and Daniel Radu evened the tally for the Bulldogs with an 8-5 decision against Taduez Poplawski (Asheville, N.C.) and Choi.
Max Leppert and Mihnea Tomos posted an 8-0 win against Jesse Artrip (Cleveland, Va.) and Adam Chivers (Wilbraham, Mass.) in the third flight, as Ruiz defeated Araujo, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. Poplawski answered for the Bobcats in the second flight, holding on for a 6-4, 6-4 victory against Leppert, before Genest earned a 6-3, 6-1 decision over Pinel in the third slot.
Choi delivered perhaps the performance of the day for the Bobcats at No. 4 singles, rallying for a 1-6, 7-5, 10-8 win over Pradilla. Radu posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Artrip in the fifth flight, as Tomos capped the day with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) decision over Chivers in the final matchup.
In the women's match, Samantha Wohlers (Windsor, Ontario, Canada) and Hilary Lutz (Shelby, N.C.) posted a hard-fought victory in the top doubles flight to pace the Lees-McRae College women's tennis team on Saturday afternoon, as Barton College rallied for an 8-1 win in Conference Carolinas play.
Lees-McRae's (0-11, 0-6 CC) duo of Wohlers and Lutz kicked off the day with a hard-fought 8-6 win over Barton's (9-6, 5-4 CC) tandem of Lindsey Frederick and Meredith Pruden, as Smiljana Klajic and Alicia Lasry defeated Taylor Bost (Jefferson, Ga.) and Stevie Harrell (Morganton, N.C.), 8-0. Caroline Fischer and Francesca De Pozo posted an 8-2 victory against LeeAnn Sullivan (Greensboro, N.C.) and Emily Jones (Leonardtown, Md.) to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead.
Kljajic registered a 6-3, 6-0 win over Wohlers in the top singles flight, as Lasry defeated Lutz, 6-4, 6-2 in the second slot. Pruden recorded a 6-2, 6-3 decision over Bost at No. 3 singles to clinch the team victory for the Bulldogs, while Frederick and Fischer posted 6-0, 6-0 wins against Harrell and Sullivan, respectively. Kristy Lievense held on for a narrow 7-5, 6-4 victory over Jones in the sixth flight.
Lees-McRae returns to the courts on Tuesday when the Bobcats host King College in league play at 2 p.m.
