WHS Boys Finish First At Taylorsville Meet PDF Print

The Watuaga High boy's track team went into the Easter break on a high note Wednesday. The Pioneers won eight events and bested the field with 76.5

points in a three-team meet in Taylorsville at Alexander Central High.
Zach Styron paced WHS by posting victories in the 110-meter hurdles (19.2) and the 300 hurdles (44.5). Christian Bachman, who turned in a second-place finish in the 100-meter dash (11.8), bested the field by finishing first in the 200 by crossing the finish line in 23.6.
Josh Anderson, Michael Holland and Drew Boyette turned in solid performances in the 1,600-and the 800-meter runs. Anderson finished second in the 1,600 (4:52.9), Holland was third (5:02) and Boyette finished fourth (5:06); that trio also grabbed the top three spots in the 800.
Anderson won the race in 2:12, Holland finished second in 2:13 and Boyette finished third in 2:21.
Justin Hall turned in a pair of second-place finishes in the long jump (17-feet, 5-inches) and the triple jump (34-7). Kenan Foxx finished second in the shot putĀ  (42-3), and Denver Elliott finished third in the discus (112-2).
Bryan Brackney won the 400 (53.0) and finished third in the 3,200 (11:27); Matthew Osborne finished second in the 3,200 (11:13). The Pioneers also won three relay events.
WHS finished first in the 4x800 (9:03), the 4x200 (1:36.40), and the 4x400 relay (4:00.7) events. Team-wise, Alexander Central finished second with 68.25 points. Fred T. Foard finished third with 30.25 points.
The WHS girls finished third with 28 points. Doria Kosmala paced the Pioneers by winning the 3,200 in 12:48.4 (the only event WHS won on the day); Madison Harman finished a close second in 12:48.6. Kosmala also finished second in the 400 (1:05).
Olivia Handley finished second in the 100 hurdles (20.9); Lynde Wangler turned in a pair of second place finishes in the 1,600 (5:54) and the 800 (2:44.8). WHS also finished second in the 4x800 relay (11:06).
Savanna Randle finished third in the 100 (14.0), Kathleen Mansure finished third in the 1,600 (5:59), and the Pioneers also had a pair of third place finishes in 4x100 (58.6) and the 4x200 (2:02.26) relays.
Alexander Central won the girl's meet with 83.5 points; Fred T. Foard finished second with 55.5 points. Saturday's meet, the Fleetwood Feet Invitational in Hickory, has been rescheduled. The meet will now be held on Saturday, April 6.
