Early Morning House Fire in Newland PDF Print

Several Avery fire departments were called to the scene of a structure fire early this morning as a resident called reporting his house on fire.  First arriving fire units reported smoke pouring from the 415 Watauga Street house, then inside, reported finding the fire at and around the wood stove in the house.  As Newland, Linville, and Crossnore equipment arrived at the scene, the fire was knocked down, then flared up again in the wood stored around the stove and had to be dealt with again.  Fire equipment had to deal with extremely slick road conditions leaving the main road onto Watauga Street, hampering the effort, but they managed to save the structure, although extensive damage was reported.
