Appalachian State University was able to take game three from Chattanooga as they defeated the Mocs, 5-1 on two home runs in the series finale.

With the win the Apps improve to 12-11 overall on the season and 6-3 in the SoCon, while the Mocs fall to 18-15 overall and 3-3 in the SoCon. The Mountaineers looked to get something started in the top of the fourth inning as Sarah Warnock hit a shallow leadoff single to center field before Dani Heichen laid down a bunt single to put runners on first and second.
Junior Lindsay Loudermilk stepped in following the bunt single, driving her second home run of the weekend and third of the season over the center field wall to put three runs on the board for the Black and Gold.
Freshman Ellie Manriquez reached first on a Chattanooga error, before the powerful bat of Warnock would hit a line drive home run over the right center field fence to extend the Appalachian lead to 5-0 in the top of the fifth inning.
After a controversial call on a play at second base, pinch runner Yoshi Hooks advanced to third on a wild pitch and came around to score on a sacrifice fly to right field as the Mocs put their first run on the board in the bottom of the fifth.
Warnock is the only App to tally multiple hits as she went 2-for-4 with two RBI, and Loudermilk went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run. Heichen and Ashley Seering each tallied one hit for the Mountaineers as App State was out-hit 5-4 in the final game.
Starting pitcher Alissa Schoelkopf (8-6) went the distance as she pitched her seventh complete game with five strikeouts. Appalachian will be back in action when they return to High Country on Tuesday, March 26 to take on non-conference opponent ETSU in a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.
