The Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball Team (13-21, 7-11) swept a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader from Newberry (18-15, 8-8), 6-1 and 10-7, Saturday afternoon at Bears Field.

Game One - Lenoir-Rhyne 6, Newberry 1
L-R senior Clay Tresher (Matthews, N.C.) pitched a shutout into the eighth inning to lead the Bears to the win. Tresher (3-1) allowed just one run while striking out six batters en route to the victory.
Lenoir-Rhyne opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning thanks to a two-run single by senior outfielder Rai Robinson (Kings Mountain, N.C.).
The score remained 2-0 until the eighth inning when Newberry cut the lead in half on an RBI double by Albert Baur (Philadelphia, Pa.).
However, Lenoir-Rhyne broke the game open in the bottom of the frame with four runs highlighted by a two-run single from sophomore outfielder Ivan Vieitez (Miami, Fla.).
Newberry's Brandon Ahrens (Newberry, S.C.) fell to 3-2 on the year after being tagged with the loss despite allowing just two runs over seven innings.
Game Two - Lenoir-Rhyne 10, Newberry 7
Lenoir-Rhyne was powered by four home runs as the Bears rallied from a 7-2 deficit to sweep the Wolves. Newberry took charge early with six runs in the second inning as Wesley Camp (Pelion, S.C.) and Bradley Nichols (Winter Springs, Fla.) both connected on two-run singles.
Trailing by a 7-4 score, the Bears took the lead for good with a four-run fifth inning which included three home runs. Junior second baseman Mike Gasque (Mebane, N.C.), freshman catcher David Martin (Boone, N.C.) and junior outfielder Brandon Walker (Otisville, N.Y.) all hit home runs in the frame while Walker's round-tripper would prove to be the game-winner. It was Martin's fourth home run of the year.
Offensively, Martin had two hits and drove in three runs, Vieitez scored three times and finished with three hits and senior shortstop Dalton Hall (Hickory, N.C.) led off the bottom of the first with a home run and added two RBI in the win for the Bears.
L-R senior Christian Hicks (Charlotte, N.C.) (1-3) pitched 5.2 innings of scoreless relief to go along with seven strikeouts for his first win of the year. Daniel Nations (Central, S.C.) fell to 0-3 after suffering the loss for the Wolves, who finished with 13 hits in the contest.
Lenoir-Rhyne plays Winston-Salem State on the road on Tuesday beginning at 6:00 p.m. Newberry returns home to host Erskine on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m., as well.
