The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Lacrosse Team (5-4) defeated Shorter (2-7), 15-9, Sunday afternoon in a non-conference match at Moretz Stadium.
L-R sophomore Connor Squires (Lawrenceville, Ga.) and junior Tyler Kotch (Butler, Pa.) each scored three times as the Bears bounced back from Friday night's loss to Saint Leo.
Squires now has a team-leading 19 goals on the year while freshman Andrew Patti (West Islip, N.Y.) scored what proved to be the game-winner for the Bears.
Patti's score came with one second left before halftime and was the first goal of his collegiate career. L-R junior Sam Ashton (New Market, Md.) also dished out a match-high five assists as the Bears rallied from a two-goal deficit for the win.
Shorter's Tyler Kristiansen (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) scored three goals and Matt Kristiansen (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) tallied two goals and two assists for the Hawks, who lost their fifth straight match.
Holding a 10-8 lead, the Bears broke the contest open with five straight goals to start the fourth and final period. In goal, L-R junior Steven McGhee (Durham, N.C.) improved to 5-1 on the season after stopping 11 shots while Shorter's goalkeeper, J.R. Willers (Lakeland, Fla.), took the loss despite tallying eight saves in the contest.
Junior Imari Davis (San Diego, Calif.) added two goals and an assist for the Bears, who held the advantage in both shots taken (61-28) and ground balls (39-37) in the victory.
Lenoir-Rhyne plays Florida Tech on the road in Melbourne, Fla., in a Deep South Conference contest match on Friday at 7 p.m. Shorter next hosts Emmanuel on Saturday at 1 p.m.
