Erskine Downs Lees-McRae, 8-1 PDF Print

Samantha Wohlers (Windsor, Ontario, Canada) and Hilary Lutz (Shelby, N.C.) registered a hard-fought win at No. 1 doubles to lead the Lees-McRae College women's tennis team, as the Bobcats fell to Erskine College in Conference

Carolinas play, 8-1, on Saturday afternoon. Lees-McRae's (0-6, 0-3 CC) duo of Wohlers and Lutz opened the day with an 8-6 victory over Erksine's (7-3, 5-0 CC) tandem of Corin Hallman and Mika Goyette, before Miranda Guthrie and Sarah McDonald evened the tally for the Fleet with an 8-0 decision against Taylor Bost (Jefferson, Ga.) and Stevie Harrell (Morganton, N.C.). The Fleet were awarded the third flight by default.
Hallman kicked off singles play with a 6-2, 6-0 victory against Wohlers, as Guthrie recorded a 6-1, 6-0 win over Lutz in the second flight. Abby O'Reilly defeated Bost, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 3 singles, before Goyette posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Harrell in the fourth flight. Victoria Stevens recorded a 6-1, 6-0 win over Jones at No. 5 singles, as the Fleet wrapped the day with a victory by default in the sixth flight.
Lees-McRae returns to the courts on Sunday when the Bobcats travel to Salisbury, N.C. to take on North Georgia College & State University in a neutral site match on the Catawba College campus at 11 a.m.

 

 

Fleet best Bobcats, 8-1

 

Hang Lak Choi (Newton, N.C.) and Taduez Poplawski (Asheville, N.C.) posted a convincing victory in the second doubles flight to pace the Lees-McRae College men's tennis team on Saturday, as the Bobcats fell to Erskine College, 8-1, in Conference Carolinas play.
Erskine's (5-5, 4-1 CC) tandem of Jack West and Wilson Mathewes kicked off the day with an 8-6 victory over Lees-McRae's (0-5, 0-3 CC) duo of Joao Araujo (Curitiba, Puerto Rico) and Carlos Pinel (Vitoria, Espírito Santo, Brazil), before Choi and Poplawski evened the tally for the Bobcats at 1-1 with an 8-2 decision against Dean Harris and Alan Pearce.
Robert Clarke and Matthew Twitty claimed the third flight for Erskine with an 8-1 win over Adam Chivers (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Jesse Artrip (Cleveland, Va.). West gave the Fleet a 3-1 lead with a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Araujo at No. 1 singles, while Mathewes registered a 6-2, 6-4 win over Poplawski in the second flight.
Harris posted a 6-0, 6-3 decision against Pinel at No. 3 singles, before Clarke clinched the team victory for the Fleet with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Artrip in the fifth flight. Twitty defeated Chivers, 6-0, 6-4 in the sixth flight, as Pearce registered a hard-fought third-set tiebreak win over Choi at No. 4 singles.
