No.3 Rollins Downs Lenoir-Rhyne PDF Print

The Rollins Women's Lacrosse Team (6-0), ranked No. 3 in NCAA Division II, remained unbeaten on the season after downing Lenoir-Rhyne (3-2), 11-5, Wednesday night at Barker Family Stadium.


The Tars' Caroline Lamere (Longwood, Fla.) and Taylor Thomas (Winter Park, Fla.) both scored three goals to lead Rollins to the win. Lenoir-Rhyne, which saw its two-match winning streak come to an end, was paced by sophomore Sarah Gioconda's (Apex, N.C.) two goals on the night.
The Tars held the Bears scoreless in the first half and went into intermission with a 6-0 advantage.
Rollins led by a 9-0 score before Lenoir-Rhyne finally got on the board with a goal by Gioconda with 25:03 remaining in the match. Rollins held a 33-27 edge in shots taken while the two squads were tied at 31 on ground balls in the contest.
Rollins' goalkeeper, Elyse De Lisle (Windemere, Fla.) earned the win after picking up 11 saves while L-R junior Ashley Gruning (Jackson, N.J.) suffered the loss despite stopping six shots on the night in goal.
Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore goalkeeper Allison Senft (Marietta, Ga.) added seven saves as well for the Bears as she played most of the second half.
Lenoir-Rhyne faces Bentley (Mass.) on Friday morning beginning at 11:00 a.m., in Winter Park, Fla., while Rollins hosts Limestone Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m.
