Cobras best Bobcats, 7-2 PDF Print

Hilary Lutz (Shelby, N.C.) and Emily Jones (Leonardtown, Md.) each recorded a victory in singles play for the Lees-McRae College women's tennis team on Saturday afternoon, as Coker College defeated the Bobcats by a 7-2 tally in Conference Carolinas action.


Coker's (3-3, 1-0 CC) duo of Daniela Chipe and Anna Musiyenko kicked off the day with an 8-6 victory over Lees-McRae's (0-5, 0-2 CC) tandem of Samantha Wohlers (Windsor, Ontario, Canada) and Lutz, before Jessi Campos and Casey Altman earned a hard-fought 9-7 win against Taylor Bost (Jefferson, Ga.) and Stevie Harrell (Morganton, N.C.). Britanny Yando and Faith Baxley gave Coker a 3-0 lead in the third flight with an 8-4 decision against LeeAnn Sullivan (Greensboro, N.C.) and Jones.
Chipe opened singles play with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Wohlers, before Lutz got Lees-McRae on the board with a hard-fought 6-1, 7-6 win against Musiyenko. Campos then defeated Bost, 6-0, 6-2 in the third flight to clinch the team victory for the Cobras, while Yando notched a 6-0, 6-0 win over Harrell. Baxley posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Sullivan at No. 5 singles, before Jones defeated Altman by default, 3-0.
Lees-McRae returns to action on Tuesday, March 5 when the Bobcats travel to Harrogate, Tenn. to take on Lincoln Memorial University in non-conference play at 2 p.m.

 

Cobras blank LMC Men, 9-0

 

The Coker College men's tennis team swept both singles and doubles play en route to a 9-0 victory over visiting Lees-McRae College in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday afternoon.
Coker's (4-2, 1-0 CC) tandem of Andre Staab and George Handy opened the day with an 8-1 victory over Joao Araujo (Curitiba, Puerto Rico) and Carlos Pinel (Vitoria, Espírito Santo, Brazil), before Tom Sizeland and William Marrafao defeated Taduez Poplawski (Asheville, N.C.) and Hang Lak Choi (Newton, N.C.), 8-1. James Corfield and Martin Moncayo gave the Cobras a 3-0 advantage with an 8-0 win against Jesse Artrip (Cleveland, Va.) and Adam Chivers (Wilbraham, Mass.).
Staab kicked off singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Araujo, while Sizeland defeated Poplawski, 6-2, 6-1 in the second flight to clinch the team victory for the Cobras. Handy notched a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Pinel in the third flight, as Marrafao posted a 6-2, 6-0 win over Choi at No. 4 singles. Corfield and Moncayo each recorded 6-0, 6-0 victories over Artrip and Chivers, respectively, in the final two flights.
