A great season came to an end for Watauga High junior Demetre Kostis on Friday night at the Greensboro Coliseum. Kostis, the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference wrestler of the Year, and the Class 4A Western Regional champion, saw his

dreams of winning a state championship come to an end Friday afternoon at the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Class 4A State Wrestling Championships.
He lost to Jeremy Ward of Parkland by pinfall in the state quarterfinals. Ward has moved on to the finals at 132 pounds as he pinned Alex Ynoquio of Cary in the state semifinals. Kostis (50-2) was eliminated from the field Friday night as he lost to Jalen Hill of North Mecklenburg by pinfall in a second-round consolation match. Hill pinned Kostis at the 2:40 mark of their match. Hill forfeited in his third-round match Saturday morning and was eliminated.
Michael Elliott (45-1) of Ashe County is in the state finals after he defeated Alex Guevara of Trinity 9-3 in the Class 2A state semifinals at 145 pounds. Elliott pinned Matthew Lafferty of Northside (3:29) in his quarterfinal match. Elliott wil face Josh Stephens (50-0) of Chase tonight in the state finals.

Justin Scarborough (33-11) of the Huskies lost to Levi Slate of North Surry by pinfall (3:13) in his semifinal match at 182 pounds. Scarborough defeated Alex Jones of Beddingfield 12-10 in the quarters. Scarborough will face Collin Minor (52-9) of Newton-Conover in the consolation semifinals. Scarboirough defeated Minor 6-5 in the opening round on Friday.
Scarborough advances to the Saturday night's third-place match by knocking off Minor 6-4 in overtime. He will face Alex Jones (39-4) of Beddington in the third-place match. Scarborough defeated Jones 12-10 Friday in the quarterfinals. Jones advanced by knocking off Mack George of West Lincoln 3-2  in his semifinal match.

Lucas Miller (35-5) of the Huskies was eliminated by Cody Shook of Bunker Hill 14-9 in overtime, in his second-round consolation match at 170 pounds. Miller lost to Cole Leighton of Black Mountain-Owen 12-10 in OT in the state quarters.
