Sherrill Finishes Second At State Meet PDF Print

Cole Sherrill of the Watauga High wrestling team earned a second place finish at the North Carolina Junior Varsity State Wrestling Championships at Wake Forest University Saturday in Winston-Salem, N.C. Sherrill competed in 140 pound weight class.

The WHS wrestling team will compete in the Class 4A Western Regoinals at Cornelius-Hough Friday and Saturday.
The state finals will be held at the Greensboro Coliseum February 28-March 2. Demetre Kostis (45-0), Gus Coffey (40-6), and Mark Townsend (39-8) will lead the Pioneers at regionals this weekend. Kostis won the championship at 132 pounds at the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference championships and was also named the NW3A/4A Wrestler of the Year on February 9. Coffey won the title at 120 pounds; Townend won the title at 113 pounds.
