Bulldogs Surge Past Bobcats, 82-58 PDF Print

The Barton College women's basketball team placed four players in double figures, and outscored visiting Lees-McRae College by a 35-23 margin in the second half en route to an 82-58 victory in Conference Carolinas play on Saturday

evening. Barton (16-6, 15-3 CC) posted a field goal percentage of 49.2 percent on the night, including a 60 percent clip in the second half, while holding Lees-McRae (8-13, 6-12 CC) to a mark of 34 percent from the floor in the contest. The Bulldogs won the battle on the glass by a 40-33 margin, including a 30-25 advantage on the defensive boards, while outscoring the Bobcats, 42-22, in the paint.
Kabrina Truesdale (Wilmington, N.C.) led the Bobcats with 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting, as Alyssa Munson (Summerfield, N.C.) added 12 markers and a team-high seven rebounds. Lauren Lewis (Concord, N.C.) chipped in 16 points with a 4-for-9 night from beyond the arc, while Layana De Souza (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) posted nine markers and a team-high four assists.
Elaine Morgan nearly posted a triple-double to pace the Bulldogs, recording game-highs of 10 rebounds and 10 assists to go along with nine points. Janae Jackson added a double-double with contest-bests of 21 points and 10 boards, while Shante Neal and Nyeshea Willie chipped in 16 and 11 markers, respectively. Brianna Thomas also posted 10 markers for the Bulldogs.
Barton jumped out to an early 11-6 lead before the Bobcats responded, cutting the margin to 16-14 following a pair of three-point plays by Truesdale with 14:22 to go. The Bobcats stayed within striking distance for much of the next 10 minutes, consistently keeping the margin to single digits before cutting the lead to 36-33 on a Lewis triple at the 3:43 mark. The Bulldogs would answer with an 11-2 run, taking a 47-35 advantage into the intermission following a pair of late freebies by Thomas.
Barton carried the momentum into the second half, opening the period with an 11-5 spurt to push the margin to 58-40 with 16:14 remaining. The Bulldogs would hold on from there, outscoring the Bobcats by a 24-18 margin over the last 15 minutes of play to equal the final score of 82-58.
Lees-McRae returns to the court on Wednesday, February 20 when the Bobcats travel to Due West, S.C. to take on Erskine College at 5:30 p.m. in conference play.

 

Bulldogs Best Bobcats, 100-62

 

The Barton College men's basketball team outscored Lees-McRae College by a 55-18 margin in the first half and held off a late Bobcat rally en route to a 100-62 victory in Conference Carolinas play on Saturday evening.
Barton (17-5, 12-4 CC) shot an even 50 percent from the floor in the contest, converting 23-of-26 attempts at the free throw line and going 11-for-20 from beyond the three-point arc. The Bulldogs held Lees-McRae (2-20, 2-14 CC) to a field goal percentage of 38.8 percent on the night, including a 27.3 percent clip in the first half, while winning the battle on the glass by a 38-27 margin.
Daniel Sepokas (Illawong, Australia) led the way for the Bobcats with 14 points and five rebounds, as Will Lopez (Sydney, Australia) and Jeremiah Henry (Semmes, Ala.) added 10 and eight markers, respectively. Gideon Oji (Imane in Koji, Nigeria) chipped in 13 points off the bench, connecting on 4-of-6 attempts from the floor and converting 5-of-6 tries at the free throw line.
Jon Hart paced the Bulldogs with a double-double, scoring 15 points and hauling down a game-high 11 rebounds. Gerald Boston nearly posted a triple-double, pouring in a game-high 27 points while grabbing seven boards and dishing out a contest-best seven assists. Chris Flemmings added 22 points off the bench, going 8-for-10 from the floor while knocking down 6-of-8 attempts from beyond the arc.
Barton opened the game with a 33-4 surge, capping the run on a Boston tip-in at the 7:06 mark before Charles Clarke (Orlando, Fla.) knocked down a triple with 6:29 left in the half. The Bulldogs would answer with a 22-14 run over the final six minutes of the period, taking a 55-18 advantage into the intermission following a pair of last-second freebies by Boston.
The Bobcats battled back in the second half, opening the period with 21 points in the opening nine minutes to trim the lead to 74-39 on a Lopez triple with 10:58 to play. Barton would answer with a 26-23 run over the final 10 and a half minutes, closing out the win on a late jumper by Ethan Maske.
Lees-McRae returns to the court on Wednesday, February 20 when the Bobcats travel to Due West, S.C. to take on Erskine College at 5:30 p.m. in conference play.
