Bears Conclude First Day Of BMC Finals PDF Print

The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's and Women's Swimming Teams wrapped up the first full day of competition Thursday at the 2013 Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center.


In the team standings, the L-R men's squad is in 11th place with 45 points while the women are 10th overall (50 points). Wingate leads both the men's (306 points) and women's (278 points) competition after Thursday's events.
Several swimmers competed in the finals for L-R including sophomore Maegan Jones (Massillon, Ohio) in the women's 500-yard freestyle (5:24.22) and 1,000-yard freestyle (11:03.16) events.
Jones finished 11th in the women's 1,000-yard freestyle while freshman Jonathan Hofrichter (Tampa, Fla.) was ninth in the men's 1,000-yard freestyle event with a time of 9:51.19.
Hofrichter also competed in the 500-yard freestyle event on the men's side and placed 18th overall (4:41.59).
Sophomore Kyle Hites (Lenoir, N.C.) just missed a school record in the men's 200-yard individual medley (1:56.96) while freshman Leah Watts (Hickory, N.C.) placed 18th in the women's 500-yard freestyle event (5:14.23).
The conference championship continues on Friday before wrapping up on Saturday.
