The Tusculum College men's tennis team swept both singles and doubles play en route to a 9-0 victory over visiting Lees-McRae College in non-conference play on Sunday afternoon.
Tusculum's (2-2) tandem of Lukas Winkelmann and Nicolas Planchard opened doubles play with an 8-1 victory over Lees-McRae's (0-1) duo of Joao Araujo (Curitiba, Puerto Rico) and Carlos Pinel (Vitoria, Espírito Santo, Brazil), before John Taylor and Jonas Winkelmann defeated Hang Lak Choi (Newton, N.C.) and Taduez Poplawski (Asheville, N.C.), 8-3. Joseph Elphingstone and Paul Wiederspahn then gave the Pioneers a 3-0 advantage with an 8-1 victory over Adam Chivers and Jessee Artrip.
Lukas Winkelmann kicked off singles play with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Araujo, before Planchard put Tusculum ahead, 5-0, with a 7-5, 6-2 victory against Poplawski. Wiederspahn defeated Pinel, 6-2, 6-1 in the third flight, as Jonas Winkelmann posted a 6-3, 6-0 win over Choi at No. 4 singles. Dainel Gianopulos recorded a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Artrip, before Taylor rounded out the day with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Chivers.

Tusculum's (2-1) duo of Kate Hutchinson and Adrienne Kaye opened the match with an 8-3 win over Lees-McRae's (0-2) tandem of Samantha Wohlers (Windsor, Ontario, Canada) and Hilary Lutz (Shelby, N.C.), before Taylor Patterson and Erin Mills defeated Stevie Harrell (Morganton, N.C.) and Taylor Bost (Jefferson, Ga.), 8-0. Megan Buckmaster and Marissa Lewis gave the Pioneers a 3-0 lead at No. 3 doubles with an 8-0 win over Emily Jones (Leonardtown, Md.) and LeeAnn Sullivan (Greensboro, N.C.).
Hutchinson notched a 6-3, 6-4 win against Wohlers at No. 1 singles, as Patterson delivered a hard-fought 7-5, 2-6, 11-9 victory against Lutz in the second flight. Waters defeated Bost, 6-0, 6-0 in the third flight, while Mills posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Harrell at No. 4 doubles. Kaye posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Sullivan at No. 5 doubles, as Amanda Sumner rounded out the afternoon with a 6-2, 6-0 win in the final singles flight.
Lees-McRae returns to the court on Friday, February 15 when the Bobcats travel to Salisbury, N.C. to take on Catawba College in non-conference play at 1 p.m.
