The wintry weather hit hard this morning, and almost instantly there were accidents, a number of them with injuries. Multiple vehicles—including a fireman’s vehicle and a salt truck on NC 194 near the Watauga School offices, with an injury reported in that. All over the High Country, road conditions deteriorated quickly as the mix of mostly snow and sleet arrived.  The Foothills and Piedmont got their dose of wintry mix hours earlier than predicted, and the rash of accidents has followed, Alexander County seeming to have the worst of it.
