According to reports from the Hickory Daily Record, Bandys High star basketball player Madi Story has made a verbal commitment to play at Appalachian State university. Story, a 6-foot junior guard who scored 30 points in the Trojans’

home victory on Tuesday night over South Iredell, has decided she wants to play in college at the same school as her mom, Mitzi Yount Story, did.
Her mother was named Ms. Basketball in North Carolina as a senior in 1987-88 after playing varsity basketball for Bandys for four seasons. She scored 1,741 career points, was a 60.2 percent shooter and grabbed 703 rebounds during her high school career as the Trojans went 108-12 in her four varsity seasons. After her basketball career at Appalachian State, Mitzi Story also coached youth basketball and worked as an assistant coach at Bandys in addition to being an assistant principal in the Catawba County Schools.
Madi Story has been a varsity starter at Bandys since her freshman season. She entered this season with 1,088 career points and has been at her best in the postseason. She has played in nine state playoff games, averaging 20.3 points per game and shooting 53.7 percent in those games.
Jesse Story, Madi’s older sister, signed to play for Lenoir-Rhyne University but is sitting out her freshman season after recent back surgery. She is expected to petition the NCAA for a year of eligibility via a medical redshirt.
