Former Appalachian State University all-America linebacker Jeremy Kimbrough (Decatur, Ga./Cedar Grove) is in Montgomery, Ala. this week, preparing to

participate in Saturday’s Raycom College Football All-Star Classic. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. ET at Montgomery’s Cramton Bowl. The contest will be televised live on CBS Sports Network.
The invitation allows Kimbrough, the Southern Conference co-Defensive Player of the Year and runner-up for the 2012 Buck Buchanan Award (nation’s best NCAA Division I FCS defensive player), to showcase his skills for professional football scouts, not only in Saturday’s game but in the week-long slate of practices leading up to the contest.
Kimbrough racked up 143 tackles in 2012, good for the third-highest total in the nation and seventh in Appalachian State single-season history. He also ranked third in the Southern Conference and among the top 100 nationally with 12.5 tackles for loss (1.04 per game) and 11th in the SoCon with 4.5 sacks.
In addition to being voted as the SoCon’s co-Defensive Player of the Year and the runner-up for the Buchanan Award in 2012, Kimbrough also earned all-America accolades for the second-straight year, including first-team recognition from The Sports Network and the Walter Camp Football Foundation.
Kimbrough is a member of the Raycom All-Star Classic’s Stars team, which is coached by longtime NFL assistant coach Jim Bates. The Stars team will square off against the Stripes team, coached by legendary NFL head coach Dan Reeves. Both teams are stocked with college football standouts whose backgrounds range from Bowl Championship Series-level programs such as Alabama, LSU, Notre Dame and Oregon to NAIA schools.
Kimbrough is one of two former Mountaineers that will be in action on Saturday. Immediately following the Raycom All-Star Classic, defensive back Demetrius McCray (Covington, Ga./Newton) will participate in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, which airs live at 6 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
