The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Basketball Team (9-3, 2-2) downed Brevard (2-10, 1-3), 70-64, in South Atlantic Conference action Saturday at Boshamer Gymnasium behind a career-high 34 points from sophomore guard Denzel Dillingham
(Hickory, N.C.). Dillingham connected on 10-of-17 shots and hit six three-pointers in leading the Bears to the victory.
Junior guard Jarvis Perry (Willingboro, N.J.) added 10 points and nine rebounds for Lenoir-Rhyne, who led by as many as 14 points in the first half and held on in the end for the win.
Brevard's Geral Simmons (Accokeek, Md.) totaled a team-high 17 points and Manzey Miller (Rock Hill, S.C.) added 15 points but the Tornados lost their fourth straight game.
The Bears, who never trailed in the game, went into the break with a 29-21 advantage and extended their lead to 63-52 on three free throws by junior guard R.J. McClure (Canton, N.C.) with 3:17 left in the contest.
Brevard tried to rally and cut the margin to 65-61 on a three-pointer by Miller with 39 seconds remaining but L-R held on in the end. Lenoir-Rhyne, which held a 40-25 advantage on the boards, hit five free throws in the final 24 seconds en route to the win.
Freshman forward Rob Noyes (Morganton, N.C.) added seven points, four assists and a game-high 11 rebounds in the league road victory for the Bears. Lenoir-Rhyne next hosts Catawba while Brevard visits Lincoln Memorial. Both South Atlantic Conference games are scheduled to tip-off at 8:00 p.m., on Wednesday night.

Lenoir-Rhyne Handles Brevard, 77-49
The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball Team (9-3, 4-0) stayed alone atop the South Atlantic Conference standings with a 77-49 win over Brevard (3-9, 1-3) Saturday afternoon at Boshamer Gymnasium. Junior forward Nneka Awuruonye (Charlotte, N.C.) led four L-R players in double figures with a team-high 14 points as the Bears won their fourth straight game.
Junior guard Krystal Patton (Chilhowie, Va.) added 12 points off the bench as well for Lenoir-Rhyne, who improved to 14-0 all-time against Brevard.
Brevard's Micheala Watkins (Forest City, N.C.) led all scorers with 17 points but the Tornados were held to just 28 percent shooting (15-of-54) for the game in the setback. Brevard stayed close until Lenoir-Rhyne scored the final 14 points of the first half to take a 37-21 lead into intermission.
L-R's margin was never threatened the rest of the contest and the Bears increased their lead to as many as 28 points at 68-40 with a pair of free throws by Awuruonye with just under seven minutes left.
Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore guard Jazmine Charles (Lexington, N.C.) and junior forward Whitney Brinkley (Asheville, N.C.) added 11 points each as the Bears also held a 48-31 advantage in rebounding in the victory.
Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to face Catawba in a South Atlantic Conference game on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m., at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.
Brevard, meanwhile, travels to Harrogate, Tenn., to take on Lincoln Memorial in a league contest beginning at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday evening as well.
