In the early morning hours of the day law enforcement was given the ‘go’ to stop Sweepstakes gaming in the state, one such operation was hit in an armed robbery in Wilkes, and now two men have been arrested.  The armed robbery occurred about 1:30 a.m. Thursday at Airport Sweepstakes at the intersection of Airport Road and N.C. 268 East just out of North Wilkesboro, according to the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office. Their report says that two men entered Airport Sweepstakes, pointed a pistol at the store clerk and demanded money fleeing with a little over $1,100 in cash. Major David Carson of the Wilkes Sheriff’s Department said it turned out that the gun was a BB pistol, discovered with the arrests of James Eric Settle, 40, of Fairplains Church Road, North Wilkesboro, and Scotty Glenn Anglin, 39, of Curtis Bridge Road, North Wilkesboro. Lawmen made the arrests within a couple of hours of the robbery at Settle’s residence.
Carson said sheriff’s department investigators went to the home after a deputy recognized the description of vehicle seen leaving Airport Sweepstakes matched Settle’s vehicle. A search of the residence turned up items connecting the two to the robbery. Settle is charged with armed robbery and Anglin is charged with aid and abet armed robbery, with other charges were filed against the two in other cases. Both men were jailed in the Wilkes County Jail, Settle under a secured bond of $130,000, Anglin under $40,000 bond.
