Ron Rivera has been retained as head coach of the Carolina Panthers. The team made the announcement after Rivera met with team owner Jerry Richardson on Saturday. The Panthers, who began the year with a 1-6 record, won six of their

last nine games. Rivera is 13-19 in his two seasons at the helm. The Panthers finished the season with a four-game winning streak. They shocked the Atlanta Falcons 30-20 in Week 14 and dominated the Chargers the next week in San Diego. Carolina finished the season with wins against the Oakland Raiders and the New Orleans Saints. Rivera still has two years remaining on his initial $11 million deal.
