Three Morning Wrecks, Two With Injuries PDF Print
Written by Steve Frank

There were two injuries in a single-car crash just before noon today on US 421 in Deep Gap.  The crash occurred as Julie Hicks of East Bend ran a wheel off the left shoulder and ran off of the road to the right, flipping her 2008 Saturn onto its side.  Hicks, 20, refused transport by Watauga Medics, but her passenger, 24-year old Kyle Haynes of Yadkinville was transported to Watauga Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.  Hicks was cited by trooper Townsend with Failure to Maintain Lane Control in the 11:20am wreck.
A couple of crashes earlier this morning, including one that blocked traffic on NC 194 and another on NC 105. The 194 crash involved a tree that fell across the road immediately in front of a woman who’s car struck the tree, followed by the crash of two others.  No injuries were reported in the 7:30am crash, but there were some slight injuries in a crash that blocked inbound traffic for Boone near the Shulls Mill Road intersection closest to Boone.  Weather played a part in both accidents, and may be a factor in travel today with winds picking up as the weather system passes.
