Sanctuary Spa Closing Fallout Continues PDF Print

Just as darkness fell late yesterday, a truck backed up to the now former Sanctuary Day Spa location just off Greenway Road, with boxes and boxes of goods removed from the building.  The activity concluded a day of accusations about the business and its closing, and many calls from folks holding —some just purchasing—gift certificates for Sanctuary services... On that, two massage therapists who left Sanctuary weeks before the closing called to offer to accept the certificates at Mountains of the Moon Massage, just off NC 105 and US 321behind BB&T. Those wanting to contact them should do so on their website, The closing has caused a dozen employees of the Sanctuary Day Spa to be out of work facing joblessness less than three weeks before Christmas.  But the owners of the spa, Randi and Hugh Schindler, say they are doing payroll today to pay the staff for the current pay period, but I got several different stories as to whether employees and customers were told not to come in. Hugh Schindler said that a number of the staff already have new jobs, and some left a note on the door as to where they were now working, but it turns out those employees left weeks before the closing.  We were told by former employees that Hugh and Randi Schindler were in a number of conflicts that damaged the function of the business, and that civil actions had been filed, the latter, a point that Hugh Schindler confirmed.  Now former employees told me they are busy filing for unemployment and many are left at this point with much uncertainty.  If you were affected by the closing, we’d like to hear from you—call 828-414-1027.
