The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball Team (3-1) defeated Winston-Salem State (1-4), 68-60, in its 2012-13 home opener Tuesday night at Shuford

Memorial Gymnasium. L-R freshman guard Jordan Hiatt (Mount Airy, N.C.) led all scorers with 19 points to go along with six rebounds and five assists as the Bears ran their winning streak to three games.
Hiatt was one of four players from Lenoir-Rhyne to score in double figures on the night. Sophomore guard Jazmine Charles (Lexington, N.C.) added 15 points and junior guard Brittany Christian (Raleigh, N.C.) scored 12 points in the win as well for the Bears.
Winston-Salem State, which lost its fourth straight game, was led by Keyrra Gillespie's (Statesville, N.C.) team-high 14 points but the Rams shot just 36 percent (23-of-64) for the contest.
L-R led by as many as 19 points on a three-pointer by Charles with 15:50 remaining for a 49-30 advantage but Winston-Salem rallied to cut the lead to five points although the Bears were able to hold on for the victory.
The Rams' Schatavia Gray (Atlanta, Ga.) hit a lay-up with 3:50 remaining to close out a 13-0 run but Hiatt responded with a pair of free throws and Lenoir-Rhyne stayed in control the rest of the way. Gray finished with 12 points and eight rebounds off the bench for Winston-Salem State.
As a team, L-R held a 42-25 advantage in rebounding, hit eight three-pointers and shot 88 percent (22-of-25) from the charity stripe in the victory.
Lenoir-Rhyne next competes in Clayton State's Loch Shop Classic against North Georgia on Saturday at 3:30 p.m., in Morrow, Ga. Winston-Salem State, meanwhile, hosts Tusculum on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
