WHS XC At Regionals Saturday PDF Print

The Watauga High men's and women's cross country teams will venture to their home away from home, McAlpine Park in Charlotte, for the Class 4A Western Regional Saturday. The WHS women are led by seniors Darby Milddlebrook

and Madison Harman. Those two finished one-and-two in the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference championships in Lenior on October 17.
Middlebrook is a two-time defending regional champion. She won the Class 4A state championship as a sophomore and finished second at state last season. She won the NW3A/4A Conference title in 18:43. Harman finished second in 19:28. Harman finished sixth at regionals last falll; WHS finished second as a team.
The WHS men will be led by Josh Anderson, who turned in a strong second-place finish (16:59) at the NW3A/4A Conference championships. He finished only nine seconds conference champion Broderick Bauguess of Fred T. Foard, who paced the field in 16:50. He was fifth at regionals last year. WHS finished third.
The regional championships begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with the men's race; the women's race will follow at 11:30 a.m. The state finals will be at Beeson Park in Kernersville Saturday, November 3. The men's Class 4A championship race will start at 10:30 a.m. on November 3; the women's Class 4A title race starts at 11:30 a.m.
