Pioneers Win Playoff Opener PDF Print

The Watauga High volleyball team, which struggled during the second-half of the regular season, bounced back by sweeping North Mecklenburg in three games, 25-19, 25-19, 25-13 Saturday at Lentz-Eggers Gym in the opening round

of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Class 4A state playoffs. The win moves WHS (16-11) into a second-round match at home against A.C. Reynolds (15-7) Tuesday night at Lentz-Eggers Gym.
The Rockets, the No.2 seed from the Mountain Athletic 3A/4A Conference, advanced on Saturday by knocking off Charlotte-Olympic, 3-0. Sarah combs paced WHS with 23 assists and three aces; Kristen Carter had 13 assists. Channing Hagaman had 15 kills and nine digs. Rebecca Hayes had ten kills and three blocks; Ashlyn VanDyke had 18 digs and three service aces; Emily Hinshaw had four service aces.
