Emily and Katherine Shields (Salisbury, N.C.) both finished in the top 10 to earn all-Conference Carolinas Second team honors to lead the Lees-McRae College women's cross country team at the Conference Carolinas Championships on
Friday afternoon. King College claimed the team title with 42 points, followed by Mount Olive College (56), Barton College (116), Erskine College (134), and Belmont Abbey College (135). Converse College placed sixth with 173 points, followed by Pfeiffer University (181), Lees-McRae (182), Limestone College (202) and Queens University of Charlotte (218).
Emily Shields paced the Bobcats with a time of 20:03.48, finishing seventh overall as her sister Katherine Shields placed 10th with a mark of 20:15.27. Cinthia Lehner (Greer, S.C.) finished 25th with a time of 21:42.43, as Rayne Delutis (Christiansburg, Va.) and Sarah Monday (Lexington, N.C.) rounded out the scorers for the Bobcats.
Both Shields twins earned their second career all-conference nods, as Emily Shields was named to the second team for the second straight year and Katherine Shields improved on her third-team performance from last fall.
The Lees-McRae College men's cross country team turned in a solid performance at the Conference Carolinas Championships on Friday afternoon, finishing ninth as a squad as freshman Matthew MacPhail (Spartanburg, S.C.) placed 47th overall. Mount Olive College claimed the team title with 25 points, followed by King College (45), Belmont Abbey College (112), North Greenville University (116), and Limestone College (141). Barton College was sixth with 165 points, followed by Coker College (186), Pfeiffer University (196), and Lees-McRae (245).
Jared Lupton (Nampa, Idaho) paced the Bobcats in 40th with a time of 29:19.67, as MacPhail posted a mark of 30:20.40. Gabriel Tobias (Caldwell, N.C.) placed 51st with a time of 31:16.87, followed by Dustin Rudisill (Dallas, N.C.) and Nate Weston (Banner Elk, N.C.) with marks of 31:34.24 and 32:40.54, respectively.
Lees-McRae returns to the trials on Saturday, November 3 when the Bobcats travel to Charlotte, N.C. to take part in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Championships.
