Pioneers Sweep NW3A/4A Championships PDF Print

New year, same results. That best describes Watauga High's domination at the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference championships Wednesday afternoon at the Aquatic Center in Lenior. The WHS

women nearly recorded a perfect score as they bested the field by the whopping total of 33 points.
Darby Middlebrook led the way as she won her third conference title by crossing the finish line in 18:43; Madison Harman finished second in 19:28. The Pioneers had eight runners in the top ten and finished with a team score of 19. Fred T. Foard was a distant second with 52 points.
Kathleen Mansure finished fourth in 20:33; Lynde Wangler was fifth in 20:40. On the men's side, the Pioneers had five runners in the top ten and bested the field with 30 points. Josh Anderson paced WHS by finishing second in 16:59.
He finished nine seconds behind the winner, Broderick Bauguess of Fred T. Foard, who crossed the finish line in 16:50. Sophomore Michael Holland of the Pioneers finished fifth (17:38) and Bryan Brackney finished sixth (17:42).
The WHS men and women venture to McAlpine Park in Charlotte for the Class 4A Western Regional next Saturday, October 27.
