The Watauga High volleyball team just can't seem to get out of its funk. The Pioneers (12-9) have now lost seven of their last eight games following an 11-2 start. And despite a win last Tuesday at Hickory that snapped a five-game losing

streak, the Pioneers stumbled again on Saturday at a tri-meet at Enka High in Candler, N.C. The Pioneers lost to West Henderson in a three-game sweep, 20-25, 15-25, 23-25. And they lost to Enka in three games, 24-26, 22-25, 19-25.
"We just can't seem to find any consistency right now," said WHS senior Ashlyn VanDyke, who signed her national letter of intent with Bluefield College Thursday. "It's pretty frustrating. We're not use to losing like this. We just have to keep working at it."
VanDyke had 17 digs in the double-dip loss on Saturday. Kristen Carter had 22 assists in the loss to Enka; Sarah Combs had 20 assists in the loss to West Henderson. Rebecca Hayes had 18 kills and six blocks on the day; Channing Hagaman had 25 kills and 12 digs. Meredith Farthing had seven kills in the West Henderson match; Kiersten McClannon had five kills and five digs in the loss to Enka.
The Pioneers return home to play Alexander Central Tuesday night.
