Jonathan Cox scored two twice, and the Ashe County High defense smothered Alleghany Friday night as the Huskies defeated the Trojans 21-12 at Huskie Stadium in West Jefferson. The Huskies (3-5 overall; 2-3 in the Mountain Valley 1A/2A Conference), who snapped a three-game losing streak, had four interceptions and
a blocked punt. Cox ran for 179 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries. Alleghany led 12-7 in the first quarter on the strength of short touchdown runs by Grant Caudill and Chandler Caudill. But the Huskies rallied to take a 14-12 lead at the intermission on Cox's 44-yard scoring run in the second quarter. Cox's five-yard scoring run in the third quarter gave Ashe County an insurance score in the third quarter, and the defense took over from there.
