Appalachian State University men’s basketball released its schedule for the upcoming 2012-13 season on Thursday, Oct. 4 This year’s schedule features 14 home contests and several marquee non-conference matchups, including road games at Missouri, South Carolina and Virginia Tech. The Mountaineers will begin
their season with an open intrasquad scrimmage on Oct. 24 before a pair of exhibitions against Lees-McRae (Nov. 2) and Carson-Newman (Nov. 5). Appalachian opens its regular-season schedule with a pair of home games against Montreat (Nov. 9) and High Point (Nov. 13).
A three-game road swing follows with contests at Campbell (Nov. 16), East Carolina (Nov. 20) and Virginia Tech (Nov. 23). App State returns home for a game against Duquesne (Nov. 28) before hitting the road for four-straight games. The Apps begin their second long road trip with a matchup against Missouri on Dec. 1. The Tigers finished last season with a 30-5 record and stormed its way through the Big XII tournament to earn a No. 2 seed in the 2012 NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament. Mizzou ended the year ranked No. 11 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.
Appalachian State opens Southern Conference play at archrival Western Carolina on Dec. 8 before making a return trip to the Midwest to face UMKC on Dec. 16. The road trip ends with a contest at SEC foe South Carolina on Dec. 19. The Mountaineers will play their final two non-conference games of the season at home when they take on Presbyterian (Dec. 22) and Milligan (Dec. 30).
App State opens the New Year at SoCon rival Wofford (Jan. 8) before a pair of home contests with Elon (Jan. 12) and UNCG (Jan. 14). The Apps will then face a two-game road trip to Chattanooga (Jan. 17) and Samford (Jan.19). The squad returns to the High Country on Jan. 24 against Georgia Southern before welcoming Davidson to the Holmes Center on Jan. 26. A trip to College of Charleston follows on Jan. 30 before Western Carolina makes its way up the mountain on Feb. 2.
Appalachian then heads south to Georgia Southern (Feb. 7) before stopping off for a contest against Davidson (Feb. 9). A home contest against Furman is slated for Feb. 11 before a pair of road games at Elon (Feb. 14) and UNCG (Feb. 17). The Mountaineers wrap up the regular season with three-straight home games against The Citadel (Feb. 20), Samford (Feb. 28) and Chattanooga (March 2).
The 2012 Southern Conference Basketball Championships take place in Asheville, N.C. from March 8-11 where the 12 SoCon member institutions will battle for an automatic bid to the 2012 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship.
