ASU officials have now identified the body found yesterday morning as Tyler Blalock, age19, from Charlotte.  Blalock was found face down in the waters of Kraut Creek in the Durham Park area just before 8am, according to a university release that said, “The Appalachian State University community is saddened by the death of student Tyler Blalock. Blalock’s body was found after a passerby reported a body in the creek that runs through Durham Park near the corner of Rivers and Hardin streets. University Police, Boone Police, and Watauga Medics responded to the call.” It goes on to say, “Blalock was a sophomore studying sustainable development. University Police continue an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.  Anyone with information related to this case is encouraged to contact University Police at 828-262-2150. No additional information is available for release at this time.” The release concludes, “The thoughts and concerns of the Appalachian community are with Tyler’s family and friends during this difficult time.”   Water rescue units of Boone Fire and Watauga Medics responded and pulled Blalock from the water.
