Pioneers Blast South Caldwell PDF Print

The Watauga High men's soccer team scored six times in the second half and routed South Caldwell 7-0 at Jack Groce Stadium in a Northwestern 3A/4A Conference game. Seven different players scored as the Pioneers (10-1-2 overall;

3-0-1 NW3A/4A) remained undefeated in league play. Tucker Chasteen, who set up Alex Parsons for WHS's first goal in the first half, led the way with a goal and two assists. Parsons and Logan Raichle each had a goal and an assist apiece.
Brian Hellenbrand, Canyon Mueller, Trey Ollis and Gabe Irwin also scored for WHS. Jake Chasteen, and Justin Wolfe each had an assist. The Pioneers travel to Hibriten Wednesday night. The JV team (8-0-3; 4-0) remained undefeated with a 4-1 win. Chase Palm led the way with two goals.

 

WHS TENNIS DOUBLES UP SOUTH CALDWELL

 

The Watauga High women's tennis team won its 11th match in a row by knocking off South Caldwell 6-3 in a Northwestern 3A/4A Conference match at the WHS Tennis Courts Monday afternoon. Monday's match was a rescheduled match that was rained out last Wednesday. The Pioneers (11-0 overall; 3-0 NW3A/4A) put the contest away by sweeping the Spartans in singles play. Meredith Smith, Hannah Petersen, Nicole Fox, Emily Burwell, Kelsi Kanoy and Annika Davidson won each of their matches in straight sets.
With the match in hand, head coach Anna DeChellis changed things around a bit in double play. Gab Neufeld and Ali Maupin dropped an 8-5 decision to Rachel Haas and Clair Staudemire of the Spartans at No.1 doubles; Taylor Paige and Savannah Copeland were bested 8-2 by Shelby Brookshire and Ashley Oliver of South Caldwell at No.2 doubles; Addie Hall and Jessica Benyon suffered an 8-4 loss to Maggie Haas and Megan Laws of the Spartans at No.3 doubles.
The Pioneers entertain St. Stephens Tuesday at the WHS Tennis Courts at 4 p.m.
