Carson Smith, a sophomore linebacker on The Citadel’s 3-0 football team, has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for September 19, the league office
announced today. The Simpsonville, S.C. native holds a 3.935 GPA in Electrical Engineering. Smith had seven tackles, an interception and an eight-yard blocked punt return for a touchdown en route to a 52-28 victory over SoCon foe Appalachian State to also earn the Southern Conference Defensive player of the week award. Other nominees included Appalachian State cross country runner Amanda Hamilton, Samford volleyball outside hitter Michaela Reesor, UNCG cross country runner Chelsea Sumney, Chattanooga quarterback Jacob Huesman, and Wofford volleyball captain Reagan Styles.
