The Watuaga High men's soccer team finally cooled off Wednesday night. The Pioneers (2-0-1 in the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference; 9-1-2 overall) played Alexander Central to a scoreless overtime tie

in a NW3A/4A Conference match in Taylorsville. Alex Parsons, who has been on fire of late, misssed a penalty kick in the first half that kept the match scoreless.
"It just wasn't Alex, it was our entire team," said WHS coach Woody McKay. "At least we didn't lose the match. But we had tons of chances, especially in overtime. But the ball just wouldn't go in."

WHS outshot the Cougars (3-8) 45-5.

"It was a disappointing tie and it feels more like a loss,.  McKay said. "Having beaten Fred T Foard and Hickory and being undefeated in the conference, we have a target on our backs.  Everyone wants to beat us now."
The JV team (3-0 in league play; 6-0-3 overall) won its match by knocking off the Cougars, 2-0. Chase Palm scored both WHS goals, with one coming on a direct kick. Gray Huffman picked up an assist on Palm's second goal. The Pioneers return home to play South Caldwell next Monday night.
