WHS Volleyball Knocks Off South Caldwell PDF Print

The Watauga High volleyball team staved off a strong effort from a much-impoved South Caldwell team Tuesday night at Lentz-Eggers Gym. The Pioneers (11-2 overall; 5-0 Northwestern

3A/4A Conference) defeated the Spartans in a three games sweep, but they had to earn it. WHS prevailed 25-18, 25-19, 25-18.
"I was real impressed with South Caldwell," said WHS coach Kris Hagaman. "They've made some huge improvements. Usually , this has been one of the easier games on our schedule, but they had some good hitters, and they did a good job challenging our girls tonight."
Kristen Carter paced the Pioneers with 34 assists and nine digs. Rebecca Hayes had nine kills and four blocks; Channing Hagaman had 13 kills. Kiersten McClannon had five kills and 12 digs, Ashlyn Van Dyke had 15 digs.
The Pioneers travel to Lenior to play Hibriten Thursday night. The JV team (9-1; 5-0) defeated South Caldwell in a tw-game sweep, 25-20, 25-16. Sarah Combs led the way with 15 assists and three service aces.
NOTES: According to Bluefield College coach Brian Votaw, Ashlyn Van Dyke will officially sign her national letter of intent at the WHS Media Center at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 4. Van Dyke will join former Pioneers Anna Church and Colby Combs, who are currently starting at Bluefield.
