An investigation into damage to an Avery graveyard has led to two arrests. On Monday, September 3rd, the Eller Family graveyard off Sam Eller Road was severely damaged by a vehicle running into the graveyard and knocking down and damaging several of the headstones. It could have been a traffic accident, but a witness at the scene saw the incident and saw the vehicle trying to flee.  The witness tried to keep the driver and his passenger from leaving the scene, but in fleeing, even more damage was done making their escape.  But information provided by the witness allowed the Avery County Sheriff’s Office to arrest the two, Larry Carmichael, 39 of Old Beech Mountain Road and 36-year old Crystal Arnold of Montezuma.  Both were charged with hit and run and leaving the scene of an accident.
