The Lenoir-Rhyne Football Team (1-1) picked up its first win of the 2012 season with a 20-2 victory over Davidson (0-2) in its home opener Saturday night at Moretz Stadium. For the second straight game, the Bears rushed for 301 yards

and were led sophomore fullback Austin Beaty (Friendsville, Texas).
Beaty rushed for a game-high 118 yards on just eight carries including a 69-yard touchdown run as the Bears bounced back with the win after a season-opening setback last Saturday. On defense, Lenoir-Rhyne held Davidson out of the end zone and finished with four quarterback sacks, four interceptions and just 35 yards allowed on the ground.
L-R got things going when junior halfback Graham Duncan (Gainesville, Ga.) scored on a 30-yard run with 3:20 left in the first quarter. The play was set up by sophomore defensive back Joe Anderson's (Lilburn, Ga.) 54-yard interception return.
Beaty's 69-yard touchdown run in the second quarter pushed the Bears' advantage to 13-0 at the intermission before L-R put the contest away with redshirt freshman quarterback Teverrius Jones' (Washington, Ga.) seven-yard touchdown run in the third stanza.
Jones' score capped off a seven-play, 50-yard drive as the quarterback notched the victory in his first career start.
On defense, the Bears were led by Anderson's 10 tackles while junior cornerback Myer Nolan (Atlanta, Ga.) picked off two passes and freshman defensive lineman Placid Ajoku (Powder Springs, Ga.) added two sacks in the victory.
For Davidson, quarterback Jonathan Carkhuff (Marietta, Ga.) passed for 265 yards and defensive lineman Lewis McAlister (Apex, N.C.) finished with a team-high 12 tackles despite the loss.
L-R opens South Atlantic Conference play on next Saturday against Carson-Newman in Jefferson City, Tenn., beginning at 1:00 p.m. Davidson plays at Marist on Saturday, September 22, at Noon.
