The Lenoir-Rhyne University Men's Soccer Team (1-1-1) played USC Aiken (0-0-1) to a 1-1 tie after two overtimes Wednesday night at the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex. The Pacers, trailing by a
1-0 score, scored with 12 seconds left in the second half to force overtime and the eventual tie.
The Bears got on the board in the 52nd minute of play when sophomore midfielder Zach Carles (Leesport, Pa.) headed the ball into the net in the center of the box.
Carles received the ball on a set play from senior defender Chris Johnson (Liverpool, ENGLAND) and sophomore defender Caolan Cullen (Dublin, IRELAND), both of whom were credited with assists for Lenoir-Rhyne.
L-R tried to run the clock out but USC Aiken took advantage of a bad pass and streaked down the field with time running out.
From there, the Pacers scored when Brett Van Pelt (Aiken, S.C.) finished off a long cross from the right by Chinedu Arinze (Stone Mountain, Ga.) with a header into the lower right corner of the net to tie the contest.
In goal, L-R junior Stefan Dill (Southampton, BERMUDA) allowed just one score while playing all 110 minutes to go along with three saves.
USC Aiken's goalkeepers, Lambert Sechet (Les Herbiers, FRANCE) and Brandon Jarosz (Bluffton, S.C.), combined to make six saves and allowed just one goal as well.
Lenoir-Rhyne hits the road for the first time this season when it travels to Hartsville, S.C., to face Coker Saturday at 7:00 p.m. USC Aiken plays at Brevard on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
