The Watauga High volleyball team didn't play its best game of the year. But it was good enough to get the job done. The Pioneers (6-1 overall; 2-0 Northwestern 3A/4A Conference) defeated Fred

T. Foard in a three-game sweep: 25-18, 25-20, 25-23.
"We made a lot of mistakes, but we managed to pull it out," said WHS coach Kris Hagaman. "We can play better, and we will."
Kristen Carter paced WHS with 35 assists; Channing Hagaman had 16 kills and seven digs. Rebecca Hayes had 13 kills and four aces, Ashlyn Van Dyke had 18 digs. The JV team (6-1; 2-0) defeated Foard in three games: 25-21, 16-25, 25-16. Sarah Combs led WHS with 22 assists, Sydney Farthing had ten kills and eight digs, Samara Critcher had five aces, and Blake Byrd had four kills and three aces.
The Pioneers return home to play Hickory Thursday night Lentz-Eggers Gym. They host McDowell and Cornelius-Hough in a tri-match Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
