Rescuers Seek Car Crash Victims in Foscoe Incident PDF Print

Foscoe Fire/First Responders, Watauga Rescue, Watauga Medics, the State Patrol and Watauga Sheriff’s Deputies were all called out early Sunday morning to a report of a vehicle wrecked in the Shulls Mill area of NC 105. Reports were that a car ran off of the road just before 3:30am and possibly landed in the Watauga River, with audible cries of someone injured reported by those at the scene.  Rescue equipment lit up the night as rescuers searched for a crash and victim or victims, but besides a woman in a BMW with flashers on, parked alongside NC 105, no wreck could be found. The Watauga Deputy called to the scene checked out the far side of the river along Tweetsie Trail, and there found a man who may have been connected to the incident, apparently in some distress—a man who may have fled the car, down to the river in the darkness, finding his way to the other side. Eventually, he was taken by ambulance to Watauga Medical Center for an evaluation while the SHP interviewed the woman, then had the Tennessee-registered car towed and arranged for the woman’s transport home. Still, with her insistence that something more occurred at the scene, a K9 unit was called in for a final search of the scene, but nothing was found in the darkness.
