The Greenville Drive bested the Hickory Crawdads at Fluor Field in Greenville on Saturday night. The Drive (65-72, 31-36) scored four runs in bottom of the first inning. CF Cody Koback reached on a fielder's choice and moved to second
when RF Drew Turocy reached first after a fielding error. DH Blake Swihart struck a RBI single to left field scoring Koback and a fielding error allowed Turocy to advance to third. With 1B Boss Moanaroa batting, a wild pitch allowed Turocy to score from third base and Swihart took second base. Moanaroa and and 2B Jose Garcia drew walks and the Drive loaded the bases with one out. C Jordan Weems drove in Swihart and Moanaroa on a RBI single to left field and Greenville shot ahead 4-0.
The Crawdads (73-64, 37-31) cracked the scoreboard with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning. RF Hirotoshi Onaka hit an opposite field single to left field and SS Luis Sardinas followed with a two run home run rocketed over the right centerfield wall to cut the Drive lead in half 4-2.
A couple runs for the 'Dads in the top of the sixth brought the game to a tie. 3B Trever Adams singled and scored on a RBI double to left centerfield from DH Zach Cone. Cone came around to score on a RBI single by C Jorge Alfaro and the scored evened 4-4.
Hickory took their first lead of the game with a run in the top of the seventh inning. CF Jordan Akins led off with an infield single and advanced to second on a bunt single from RF Hirotoshi Onaka. After Akins moved to third on a double play groundout he scored on a RBI single off the bat of Adams and the 'Dads led 5-4.
Greenville regained their lead with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. SS Dreily Guerrero got on base after a fielding error and scored on a RBI double from Koback. Koback scored after stealing third and an errant throw to put the Drive in front 6-5. Greenville added a seventh run in the eighth inning. Moanaroa led off with a single and scored on a RBI double from Weems putting the Drive up 7-5.
Hickory added a run in the top of the ninth but they would fall short on the final count 7-6. Onaka reached on an infield single, took third on a Sardinas single and scored on a sacrifice fly from 2B Drew Robinson. RHP Santo Perez (L, 4-10) took the loss for the 'Dads throwing three innings. Perez gave up three runs, one earned, on four hits while striking out two.
