The Texas Rangers, MLB parent club of the Hickory Crawdads, have announced that former Crawdad and 2011 South Atlantic League Most Valuable Player Jurickson Profar has been promoted to the Major Leagues.  He becomes the

112th former Crawdad to make the big leagues and second from the 2011 team, joining RHP Justin Grimm. Profar, 19, spent the entire 2011 campaign in Hickory as the youngest player in the South Atlantic League.  In 115 games with the 'Dads, he hit .286 with 12 home runs, 65 RBIs, 27 doubles and 123 total hits.  He worked more walks (65) than strikeouts (63), and compiled a .390 on-base percentage.  In just his second professional season last year, he helped lead the Crawdads to their second straight postseason appearance, in addition to being awarded the league MVP award and being voted to the 2011 SAL Postseason All-Star Team.  He also became the first player to ever appear in the prestigious MLB Future's Game as a current member of the Crawdads, and played in the showcase again this year.
This season, the native of Willemstad, Curacao suited up in 126 games with the Frisco RoughRiders (AA) before his promotion to the Rangers.  As the youngest player in the Texas League, he compiled a .281 average with 14 home runs, 62 RBIs, 26 doubles and 135 total hits, en route to a selection to both the Texas League Midseason All-Star Game and the Postseason All-Star Team.  Earlier this season, he strung together a 29-game hitting streak (still tied for the 2nd-longest streak in Minor League Baseball), as well as an MiLB-leading 50-game on-base streak from April 7 - June 2.  He signed with the Rangers as a non-drafted free agent in 2009.
Profar becomes the first player born in 1993 to make the Major Leagues, and is the third-youngest player to ever suit up for the Rangers.  He is already the eighth former Crawdad that has played in Hickory under the Rangers affiliation (since 2009) to debut in the big leagues.  Click here to visit Profar's player page on
Mavare and Williams promoted; Hickory receives Alvarez
The Crawdads also have announced that RHP Arlett Mavare has been promoted to the Round Rock Express (AAA) and LHP Greg Williams will be joining the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (High-A).  Mavare posted a 5-5 record, a 3.57 ERA, and a team-high 102 strikeouts and five saves through 40 relief outings and 80.2 total innings.  Williams appeared in 20 games out of the bullpen, going 2-0 with a 3.49 ERA, four saves and 25 strikeouts in 28.1 total innings.  They become the 11th and 12th Crawdads to be promoted this season.
Alvarez, 20, made 18 relief outings for Spokane before being promoted to Hickory, and went 2-2 with a 2.61 ERA.  Through 48.1 total innings, he struck out 40 batters and only issued nine walks.  The native of Valencia, Venezuela signed with the Rangers as a non-drafted free agent in 2009.
