DORTON, PASSMORE, WILKS EARN VOLLEYBALL HONORS PDF Print

College of Charleston’s Darcy Dorton, Chattanooga’s Paula Passmore, and Furman’s Jo Wilks have been named the SoCon Offensive, Defensive

and Freshman Volleyball Players of the Week, respectively, for August 27.  The selections are made by the conference office.   Dorton, a junior outside hitter, led the team in kills (58) during the Cougars’ 2-1 run through the Hampton Inn & Suites Invitational. The transfer from Penn State registered a double-double in kills and digs in CofC’s first two matches over the weekend. She also finished second on the team in digs for the tournament with 36. Dorton was also named to the Hampton Inn & Suites Invitational All-Tournament team. Passmore, a senior libero/defensive specialist, helped the Mocs start 3-0 for the first time since 2001. Passmore recorded 77 digs through 10 sets over the weekend for Chattanooga. Her 41 digs against USC Upstate on Saturday was a single-match best for the senior, breaking her old record of 38 against Elon on Oct. 30, 2012. She was also named to the Country Inns & Suites All-Tournament team Furman’s Jo Wilks posted strong numbers in her first weekend as a Paladin to garner Freshman of the Week honors. In her collegiate debut, Wilks posted 35 assists in Furman’s 3-0 win over MTSU. She added a double-double in Furman’s 3-2 win over UAB with 58 assists and 11 digs. Wilks led the Paladins in assists in all four matches this weekend. She also hit .800 with four kills and no errors in Furman’s win over Texas-San Antonio Saturday night. Wilks was also named to the Blue Raider Bash All-Tournament team. Nominated for Offensive Player of the Week were Appalachian State’s Dalton Tolliver, College of Charleston’s Darcy Dorton, The Citadel’s Ise d’Angelo, Furman’s Natalie Braun, Georgia Southern’s Kate Van Dyke, UNCG’s Ari Lysacek, Chattanooga’s Bridget Camacho, Western Carolina’s Caitlin Piechota, and Wofford’s Amanda Liguori. Nominated for Defensive Player of the Week were Appalachian State’s Jessica Eley, College of Charleston’s Emily Shelton, The Citadel’s Emily Dalton, Elon’s Ali Deatsch, Furman’s Elle Ross, Georgia Southern’s Kym Coley, Samford’s Alexis Bauer, Chattanooga’s Paula Passmore, Western Carolina Morgan Cochran, and Wofford’s Amanda Liguori. Nominated for Freshman of the Week were Appalachian State’s Paige Brown, The Citadel’s Mikaela Tracy, Elon’s Megan Gravley, Furman’s Jo Wilks, Georgia Southern’s Alexandra Beecher, UNCG’s Lauren Betlach, Chattanooga’s Julimar Alvarado, Western Carolina’s Tina Nazario, and Wofford’s Alex Bidgood.
