The Watauga High men's soccer team suffered its first setback of the season Monday night with a 2-1 loss at A.C. Reynolds. The Rockets (5-0), who are ranked 11th in the state in Class 4A, rallied for
two goals in the second half. Justin Hall scored WHS (5-1) only goal on a throw in by Cam Linnville at the two-minute mark of the first half.
But the Rockets tied things up as Alex Cabe scored at teh 45-minute mark of the second half. Hector Gutierrez picked up an assist on that game-tying goal. And the Rockets scored the game winner 12 minutes later on a goal by Gutierrez, which was assisted by Ed Diez.
"I'm disappointed we lost," said WHS coach Woody McKay, "ut A.C. Reynolds has an excellent team. We made them earn it with two goals in the second half. I can live with a loss like this, especially against a quality team on the road."
The WHS JV team played ACR to a 1-1 tie. Will Spinetto scored WHS' only goal, which was unassisted, off a corner kick in the first half. The Pioneers return home to play Patton on Wednesday.
