Appalachian State University men’s soccer ended its preseason on a high note, defeating VMI 4-0 Monday afternoon at the Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex. With the victory, the Mountaineers spilt their two preseason matches and will turn

their attention towards the regular-season opener at home against East Tennessee State on Friday, Aug. 24. Appalachian got on the scoreboard in the 21st minute when freshman Ewahia Amhanesi headed in a cross from sophomore Patrick Harrow. For Amhanesi, it was his second goal of the preseason. The Mountaineers went into the half with a 1-0 score, out shooting the Keydets 9-4.
Senior David Dodge got on the scoring sheet in the 52nd minute when he headed a cross from freshman Alex Herbst. Eight minutes later Hermann Watch List defender Lee Williams tallied his first goal of the preseason thanks to an assist from Dodge. Dodge tallied his second goal for the match on a free kick in the 67th minute, giving the Mountaineers a 4-0 lead, a margin they would hold for the rest of the match. App State outshot the Keydets 15-9 for the match, and eight were on goal. Junior Danny Free started the match in goal for the Apps, grabbing one save.
ASU will shift its focus to the regular season, as the Mountaineers and ETSU will meet for the tenth time in the series. Kickoff for that match is set for 7 p.m.
