Crawdads Pound Sand Gnats PDF Print

The Hickory Crawdads blew away the Savannah Sand Gnats 12-5 Saturday night at L.P. Frans Stadium in Hickory. The win leaves Hickory just 1  1/2 games out of first place in the North Division of the South Atlantic League behind the Hagerstown Suns. The Crawdads also remain in a second-place tie with West Virginia. Leading 7-5, the Crawdads

(30-25, 66-58) broke the game open with a five-run outburst in the bottom of the sixth. Three straight singles by Luis Sardinas, Nick Urbanus and Trever Adams loaded the bases with nobody out. Zach Cone drove in the first run of the inning with a bases-loaded walk; Alejandro Selen followed with a bases-clearing triple to left-center field that gave Hickory an 11-5 lead. Kellin Deglan closed out the scoring with an RBI single.
The Crawdads made 14 hits. Selen led the way going 4-5 with two runs scored, including three doubles and four runs-batted-in; Sardinas, Robinson and Adams each had two hits apiece; Adams, Cone and Kevin Torres each had a pair of RBI. The Sand Gnats (24-30, 65-56) only had five hits. Santo Perez (4-9) got the win by giving up an earned run in three innings with three strikeouts and a pair of walks.
