The Hickory Crawdads cruised to their third shutout victory of the week, topping the Savannah Sand Gnats 6-0 at L.P. Frans Stadium in Hickory Friday night. The win leaves Hickory 1 1/2 games behind Hagerstown for first place in the North Division of the South Atlantic League, and in a second-place tie with West Virginia. Nick Martinez (7-6) was in

complete control as he shut down the Sand Gnats (24-29, 65-55) with his second consecutive six-inning scoreless start.  He limited Savannah to just two hits a one walk with four strikeouts. Martinez only faced 19 hitters through six innings, just one over the minimum. And the Crawdads (29-25, 65-58) gave Martinez all the runs he need in the fourth inning on a run-scoring single by Zach Cone.
Hickory scored two more times in the bottom of the sixth. Walks to Luis Sardinas and Trever Adams put runners at first and second with two outs. And Cone came through again with a two-run double to right-center field for a 3-0 lead. A two-run triple by Sardinas in the seventh made it 5-0; Kellin Deglan had a run-scoring double in the eighth to close out the scoring. Cone was 3-4 with a run scored and three RBI; Sardinas was 2-3 with a triple, a run scored and two RBI; Deglan had two hits and drove in a run.
