Crawdads Crush Suns PDF Print

Enough is enough. Following two frustrating losses, the Hickory Crawdads slammed their way to a 14-7 blowout win against the Hagerstown Suns at Municipal Stadium in Hagerstown Wednesday night. Jordan Akins pace the attack with four hits, including a home run, and four RBIs; Zach Cone knocked in three runs. The win leaves Hickory in third place and just

one game off the lead in the North Division of the South Atlantic League. The Crawdads (28-24, 64-57) got out to a quick start, striking against RHP Taylor Hill in the top of the first inning.  With one down, 2B Nick Urbanus drove a double to right-center field, before racing in on an RBI single by LF Zach Cone one out later, lifting Hickory to the 1-0 lead.
Wit the game tied 6-6, Hickory broke the game open with five runs in the top of the seventh. Nick Urbanus led off with a double, Trever Adams singled, and Cone belted a two-run triple to left-center field for an 8-6 lead. Alejandro Selen reached on an error, Robinson drove in Cone with an RBI fielder's choice for a 9-6 lead; an error allowed Selen and Robinson to both be safe on the play. Jorge Alfaro walked to loaded the bases, and Selen scored on a double play ball hit by Torres. Akins put the finishing touch on the big inning with an RBI single, stretching the lead to 11-6.
An RBI double by Selen in the eighth made it 12-6, and the Crawdads plated two more runs in the top of the ninth. With Alfaro at third and one out, Akins came through with a run-scoring single for his fourth RBI of the game. Akins moved to second on an error and he scored on an RBI fielder's choice by Urbanus to close out the scoring.
Urbanus was 3-6 with a pair of doubles, three runs scored and an RBI; Adams was 3-6 with an RBI; Aikens was 4-5. The 'Dads made 17 hits; Victor Payano (6-7) tossed three scoreless innings in relief with three strikeouts to get the win.
