Suns Rally To Upend Crawdads PDF Print

The Hickory Crawdads battled back from a 3-1 deficit only to lose in the end. The Hagerstown Suns knocked off Hickory 4-3 with a run in the bottom of the ninth at Municipal Stadium in Hagerstown on Tuesday night. With the game tied 3-3 and one out in the bottom of the ninth, Brett Newsome singled to put the eventual winning run on base. He scored

moments later on an RBI double by RF J.R. Higley that gave the Suns their walk-off win. Hickory wiped out a 3-1 deficit with two runs in the top of the ninth; Drew Robinson led off with a double to the right-field corner.  Following a strikeout, Trever Adams laced a base hit to right field that put runners at first and third.  Jorge Alfaro delievered with two out as he placed an RBI infield single to bring in Robinson, making it 3-2. Shortstop Bryce Ortega of the Suns made a bad decision on the play.
He fielded the Alfaro single, he tried to end the game by retiring Adams at second base But his throw was wide, enabling Adams to make it all the way to third on the play. Pinch hitter Alejandro Selen followed with an RBI single to center field that scored Adams and tied the game.
Alfaro had two hits and drove in a run for the 'Dads; Kellin Deglan belted his 12th home run in the losing cause. Will Lamb pitched well, but had a no-decision. He went six-plus innings. He gave up three runs, but only one earned on two hits. The loss leaves Hickory in third place and a 1 1/2 game out of first place in the North Division of the South Atlantic League.
