The Hagerstown Suns topped the Hickory Crawdads 5-1 at Municipal Stadium in Hagerstown on Monday night. The loss drops Hickory into third place in the North Division of the South Atlantic League; and the Crawdads are a game off the pace. The Suns (27-22, 69-49) charged in front with three runs in the bottom of the second inning. With two men on

and two down, Bryce Ortega sliced a two-run triple inside the right-field line plating both runners for a 2-0 lead. Matt Skole followed with an RBI single through the left side of the infield giving the Suns and early 3-0 advantage.
The 'Dads (27-23, 63-56) got on the board in the top of the seventh.  With one away, Kellin Deglan lined a solo home run over the right-field wall that made it 3-1. Deglan was Hickory's most productive hitter Monday night. He was 3-4 with a home run and an RBI.
The Suns put the game out of reach with a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth. Justin Miller was hit by a pitch to start the stanza, Brett Newsome singled Miller to third base and took second himself on the throw to third. J.R. Higley then skied a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Miller; Newsome moved to third base on a ground out, and he scored on a wild pitch.
Jared Eickhoff (11-7) suffered the loss; he gave up three earned runs on four hits with four walks in the losing effort. The Crawdads only made four hits Monday night.
